When I created the scent Cherish, I wanted to craft a feeling of sweetness, intimacy, and the delicate feeling of holding someone’s heart. We can imagine this with people, because there are so many stories and movies that depict romance and intimacy.
But what usually happens in the movies? At some point, something interrupts the sweet budding romance. A mistake, an earth-shattering secret, or the simple revelation that someone was not who they originally seemed to be. The person who was once cherished is rejected, alone, and heartbroken.
Our relationship with Jesus is not the same. He paid a price with his life, so that no mistake, secret, or character flaw can change our status with Him. The only thing that can separate us from the love of God is our rejecting that love. When we want to be righteous enough to deserve His love, we actually forfeit the grace of His love.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 NIV
So let try this. The next time we make a mistake, let’s not come to Jesus like we are someone He is disgusted by. Like we have to earn our way back into His good graces. No. We are like children who Jesus is willing and ready to guide into the next best thing, for our lives and the lives of others around us.
We can either choose grace or performance. We can’t have both. I hope and pray that we all choose to walk in the freedom of His grace. Go in grace this week, my friends.
